Crested breed care : How to trim crest (pom)

Crested breeds, such as Polish, Silkies and Araucana, require regular checks to ensure their crest feathers are not obstructing their vision. When feathers around the eyes grow too long, their vision becomes significantly limited, making them more clumsy and causing them to become timid or easily frightened by the rest of the flock. In more serious cases, overgrown feathers can scratch the eyes, potentially leading to permanent damage. Regular trimming or careful maintenance of their crests can help prevent these issues and ensure their well-being.

If your Silkie’s fine feathers keep falling into their eyes, simply use masking tape to gently tie their pom. It can make a world of difference, helping them see better and move around with more confidence.
