The Araucana chicken is a distinctive breed renowned for its unique appearance and blue-green eggs. Originating from South America, particularly from the Araucania region of Chile. They come in various color varieties, including black, white, silver, and golden. They are medium-sized birds with a compact body. They are hardy and tolerate wide range of climates, considerably early maturing breed compare to most other heritage breed.
One of the most remarkable traits of Araucana chickens is their egg color. They lay eggs with shells ranging from blue to green, which are highly sought after for their novelty and aesthetic appeal. The depth of the egg colour can change depending on various factors e.g. age of the hen, season, weather and diet. Often the youngest pullets lay most impressive deep blue- green eggs and the depth of the colour gets lighter as they mature.
In addition to their unique appearance and egg color, Araucanas are known for their friendly and curious nature. They are active birds that enjoy foraging and exploring their surroundings, making them well-suited for free-range environments.

*Important notes on our Araucana
1. Our Araucana breeders encompass both crested and crestless varieties. While we, along with a few other breeders, are working on the crestless variety, as of 2024, it is not recognized by the Australian Poultry Standards.
2. Some of our breeders carry genetics that result in a white-tinted earlobe. This is a common occurrence among Araucana in Australia, based on our experience with various bloodlines. Though this trait may not be immediately visible, as it is often concealed behind their beard and ear muffs, we believe in transparency. While the Australian Poultry Standard 2nd edition does not specify earlobe color (“Earlobes: moderately small and concealed by muffling”), the Open Poultry Standard – Araucana states that earlobes should be red.
While we strive to select our breeders in accordance with the Australian Poultry Standard, we have chosen to retain this group for personal reasons; These breeders exhibit the desired appearance without the crest while maintaining most of other Araucana traits and we like the colour variety. This decision may potentially lead to further developments in the future. However, we strongly advise our customers to consider the factors mentioned above before purchasing our eggs or birds and to make an informed decision based on their specific needs. As it stands, we recommend our current line for egg colour, pet and backyard purposes. .
