Note for Western Australia Customers
Please read carefully prior ordering our eggs
WA has the strictest quarantine regulations in Australia,
- Western Australia (WA) enforces stringent quarantine regulations to protect its unique agricultural and environmental status. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) mandates that all imported animal and plant materials be clearly labeled to facilitate inspection and ensure compliance with biosecurity measures. As of 13/11/2024, we are now including the scientific species name of the domestic chicken, Gallus gallus domesticus, on all parcels sent to WA. - While inspection events are rare, they can occur with any fertile egg parcel entering WA, not just from us but from breeders across Australia. To provide some perspective, we send parcels to WA regularly—typically 2-3 times per week during the season. Since 2019, we are aware of only three reported cases where parcels underwent inspection.
- While some people have reported that unlabeled parcels containing fertile eggs have passed through WA’s quarantine without issue with NO labeling, this is likely due to random chance.
Before starting Pip & Grow, we were backyard hobbyists and, at times, unaware of WA’s regulations. On one occasion, a non-labeled parcel was intercepted. It took nearly two weeks to reach the buyer because authorities required proof from the recipient to confirm that the eggs were indeed chicken eggs. - As a business, we are committed to adhering to all regulatory requirements, including proper labeling of shipments, to ensure compliance and avoid potential penalties. If you prefer your eggs to be unlabeled, we regret that we cannot accommodate such requests, we recommend seeking other breeders who may be able to assist with your specific preferences.
- Even with correct and clear labeling, Quarantine WA officers have the authority to inspect any parcel entering the state. These inspections, though infrequent, can occur randomly. During such inspections, parcels may be opened to verify their contents, which can inadvertently affect the packaging and potentially impact the viability of the eggs.
- If a parcel is inspected by Quarantine WA, the receiver may be notified and charged an inspection fee. This fee varies depending on the level of inspection conducted.
For example, both parcels labelled correctly with details in the same manner.
In one instance, a parcel was not physically opened but received a “passed inspection” sticker. It was simply reviewed at the desk, and the officer was satisfied with the labeling. However, the receiver was still charged an inspection fee of approximately $30.
In another case, a full inspection was carried out, including opening and examining the contents, which resulted in an inspection fee of around $70.
As outlined in our Terms & Conditions, any costs associated with quarantine or customs inspections are the responsibility of the customer. Unfortunately, we cannot take responsibility for these charges or any resulting outcomes.
We respectfully ask that you refrain from placing an order if you are not prepared to accept the potential risks involved in purchasing fertile eggs being shipped interstate to WA.
